The GIDEON Tutorial
MICROBIOLOGY 3 - CHARACTERIZE
The Characterize
button (lower right on the main Microbiology screen) allows you to access information on any
specific organism; or compare a group of organisms.
For example, I've asked GIDEON to contrast four well known species
of Clostridium. Such charts are ideal for preparing student handouts,
slides, etc.
The Characterize button will access a list of all Taxa in the program, and allow you to explore their phenotypic characteristics, or compare any two or more organisms. This is particularly valuable for preparing printed material, slides, lecture notes, etc. For example, I have asked GIDEON to contrast selected species of Clostridium. A screenshot follows:

Similar functions are used in the Mycobacteria
and Yeast modules. The current names for older taxa can be accessed by pressing
'Synonyms'
in
the upper left hand corner on the Characterize Screen.
