Infectious Diseases – Diseases – General tab

The Diseases   tab displays numerous information fields regarding the selected disease:

  • Agent: Classification (e.g., virus, parasite) and taxonomic designation.
  • Reservoir: Any animal, arthropod, plant, soil or substance in which an infectious agent normally lives and multiplies, on which it depends primarily for survival, and where it reproduces itself in such a manner that it can be transmitted to a susceptible host.
  • Vector: An arthropod or other living carrier which transports an infectious agent from an infected organism or reservoir to a susceptible individual or immediate surroundings.
  • Vehicle: The mode of transmission for an infectious agent. This generally implies a passive and inanimate (i.e., non-vector) mode.
  • Incubation Period: The time elapsed between acquisition of an infectious agent and onset of signs or symptoms. The maximum and minimum published figures are usually indicated, rather than the “usual” incubation period.
  • Clinical Hints: A capsule summary of key signs and symptoms.
  • Diagnostic Tests: Commonly used laboratory tests and other procedures used in diagnosis.
  • Typical Adult Therapy: Typical therapy and dosage assuming no contraindications, normal renal and hepatic function, etc.
  • Typical Pediatric Therapy: Typical therapy and dosage assuming no contraindications, normal renal and hepatic function, etc. Note: This regimen may not be applicable to infants.
  • Synonym list: Displays synonyms for the listed disease, including ICD9 and ICD10 codes.
