BioTerror Indicator in GIDEON
In addition to the popular Bioterrorism Simulator that is available in the diagnosis and epidemiology modules of GIDEON, there is a new feature called the bioterror indicator that allows the user to consider a potential bioterror threat whether or not they are suspicious or aware that a bioterror event has occurred.
If
a clinician is unaware of a bioterror event and performs a diagnosis in
GIDEON, any possible bioterror related disease that appears in the results
will be flagged with this symbol:![]()
For example, here we show the diagnosis module with signs and symptoms selected for an adult patient, but the bioterrorism simulator (located in the “Disease acquired in…” field) has not been selected:

After clicking the diagnose button the following results are displayed, with the bioterror icons next to several of the diseases listed:

At the bottom of the diagnosis results window, the note below is included to explain the bioterror icons presence:

Once a clinician is made aware that the disease is bioterror related they can then proceed with the necessary risk assessment and decision making processes.
