Synopsis: At the completion of the workshop, participants will be knowledgeable about Internet and software resources useful for bacteriology, mycology and parasitology (covering educational, diagnostic, treatment and taxonomic aspects). They will also become familiar with resources for travel medicine and epidemiology. Especially the following tools will be covered in great detail: EpiInfo, Fit for travel, GIDEON, and RIDOM. Demonstrations of the different resources will be presented and the attendees will be supplied with CD-ROMs.
Objectives: At the end of this workshop the participant will:
- apply GIDEON to make differential diagnosis of traveling related infectious diseases
- operate EpiInfo and apply epidemiology-related calculations
- apply RIDOM to diagnose and differentiate Mycobacterium infections
- operate FIT for Travel to propose a vaccination scheme for travels abroad
- acquire an overview of other useful Internet and software Resources for Medical Microbiology
Intended Audience: Clinical microbiologists, medical technologists, supervisors, managers, directors, pathologists, physicians, educators, epidemiologists and infectious disease specialists.
